Timeline of the Early Settlement of McKellar
- 1860s - Henry and Edward Broadbent settle and name Broadbent.
- 1867 - David Patterson visits the site of what will later be McKellar with his father.
- 1867 - Samuel Armstrong Jr., Andrew Moore, and John McKeown blaze a trail from Parry Sound and name their settlement 'Armstrong Rapids.'
- 1867 - William Beatty follows an old first nations trail and builds the Great Northern Road.
- 1868 - Alexander Hardie treks to the shores of Lake Manitouwaba with oxen.
- 1869 - David Patterson builds a shanty at the site of McKellar, but then cedes the land to the Armstrongs for the building of their mill.
- 1869 - J.W. Fitzgerald surveys the township into lots.
- 1871 - 1st Post Office is established as part of Armstrong's Store.
- 1872 - Mary Jane Brown opens the 1st school in her kitchen.
- 1873 - The Township of McKellar is incorporated.
- 1873 - The First Council consists of: Reeve, Samuel Armstrong; Councillors, William Hurd, George B. Lee, James McKeown, Samuel Oldfield; and Clerk, David Patterson.
- 1875 - The 1st McKellar Fall Fair is held.
- 1893 - The Agricultural Hall is built.
